The Prior Prep Program (PPP) is an intensive pre-medical program developed in conjunction with the AUA College of Medicine that prepares students with a BS/BA degree for medical school. The entire program lasts one semester and is comprised of key courses which will fortify basic knowledge which will enhance success in medical school.
Everyone who passes this program will get automatic acceptance into the American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine. Once admitted to AUA, qualified students may apply for federal student loans.
The tuition for this program is $5,000. Students will receive a 50% refund of tuition if they do not successfully complete the course. Prepaid subsidized housing will be available for the PPP program at $1,500 for one semester**. Students will be responsible for utility charges. The housing damage deposit is $1,000.
To confirm a seat at PPP, students must submit a seat deposit of $500.
**You will be placed in Group 3 Selected AUA housing. In the event that you would like to live in a different housing option, you will be required to pay the full amount of your selection.
All students are required to have health insurance while actively enrolled. AUA/AUA CAS provides students with a limited benefit injury and sickness plan administered by United Health Care (UHC). Semi-annual premiums are $1100.
Students are not required to purchase UHC health insurance and may choose to opt-out in favor of Outside Coverage. Outside Coverage is defined as a policy purchased separately, by the student, transacted directly with the student’s insurance carrier, not AUA/ AUACAS.
Students choosing to opt-out of AUA/ AUACAS provided UHC health insurance in favor of Outside Coverage must submit a Proof of Insurance Evaluation form in order to be approved for an insurance waiver. Scanned copies of insurance ID cards are NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE as proof of outside coverage.
IMPORTANT: Students in attendance in Antigua who opt out of university-provided (UHC) accident/sickness coverage will be required to purchase repatriation/medical evacuation coverage through the university and UHC. The premium for this is $125 annually or $62.50 monthly.
